Community Outreach Projects

Breaking Barriers has a commitment to help communities organize their response to catastrophic illness. To accomplish this goal we work extensively with those who are most affected to bring about the hope of a new and stronger future.

Listed on the top navigation bar you will see some of our current projects in the Sacramento area. We welcome your feedback and participation.

S-Club

S-club is an educational/social group in Sacramento. We ask community leaders to host workshops in their homes. These gatherings give the men a time to ask questions about HIV/STDs and topics of community import as well as encourage each other to stay safe while setting goals for themselves.

Women of Color Project

Breaking Barriers has been a leader in the Sacramento area at providing prevention services and a voice for prevention for African American women. This is being accomplished through dedicated staff and volunteers who generously give their time to spread the word about HIV and AIDS prevention to local communities and churches.

In 2007, Breaking Barriers was awarded additional funding from the Sacramento County Office of CD/HIV prevention for this program which allowed us to develop a more fully realized prevention program in our area targeting those African American women most risk for HIV infection.

We work with many local health providers to provide referrals to low income women to reduce the disparity in health outcomes for those of the lowest income levels.

Homeless assistance

Breaking Barriers works with many local agencies that provide housing services and services to those who are homeless or marginally housed in our area. We provide not only prevention services around HIV but also strategies to connect with and stay connected to medical treatment and housing referrals including the partnership we have with Volunteers of America to provide stable and secure housing.
